Broadclyst Twinning Association
|
Broadclyst Twinning Association was formed in 2006 to foster friendships and exchanges between the residents of Broadclyst and Plobannalec-Lesconil on the south coast of Brittany. Plobannalec is mainly a farming community and Lesconil a traditional fishing village. Together they form one parish. So far there have been two visits to France and one here. We are expecting a visit from our French friends, including the Mayor, in May 2010. In France we have been treated to a roller coaster of feasts, visits, music and great hospitality. Some of us cycled there last year and were accompanied by French cyclists for the second leg of the journey. Currently children from Broadclyst Primary School are corresponding with pupils from one of the two French schools, L’Ecole Primaire St. Joseph. The after- school French club is also up and running. A group of pupils, teachers and parents from St Joseph are coming to Devon in spring 2010 and will spend some time at the school which is very keen to foster this exchange. When firm educational, sporting, cultural or business links are established between our two communities we shall, if the parish Council so wish, be able to write a Charter of Friendship for their Mayor and the Chair of our Parish Council to sign both here and in France. Please contact us with any ideas or projects you may have to make this twinning successful. We hope to have a public event in May during the French visit to encourage awareness of the group’s activities. Currently members pay £5 a year, couples and families £10. There are fundraising and social events. We have meetings as needed. Everyone is welcome to join.
