Police in Broadclyst

Buffie is our Neighbourhood Beat Manager. That means that we often see her around the Parish. As she's community-based, she is well placed to tackle the issues that matter most to schools, local businesses and others in the parish. These can often be the low level, quality of life issues that make a difference to everyday lives. Buffie comes along to all the Parish Council meetings to let us know what's been going on in the Parish, answer our questions and listen to our concerns.

Experiencing Police Programme

Recently Buffie invited Clyst Vale Community College to send 20 year 11 students to take part in a Experiencing Police Programme. They spent a week at the Police HQ at Middlemore. During this time they took part in mock-up activities such as dealing with a crime scene, interviewing offenders and going to a court case. They were also given in some detail the experiences of a Police Officer. The feedback was tremendous, and it really opened the eyes of a lot of youngsters as to what is involved. This all helps to improve the relationship between the police and local schoolchildren.

Special Constables

Buffie would like to encourage residents from the Parish to consider becoming a Special Constable. The advantages of having more Special Constables in the Parish is that they are usually keen to pay attention to the area. Also, they will be able to patrol without being distracted by other commitments. Finally, Specials have full police powers. Buffie now holds two community surgeries at:

 Somerfield the first Tuesday of each month from 10-11am

 Wiltshier Room, Victory Hall, the second Thursday of each month from 2-3pm

It is an opportunity to speak with Buffie regarding any matter that causes you concern be it parking, nuisance neighbours,intelligence re drugs, drink drivers or to just ask general questions or to arrange a further more discrete meeting rather than attending a Police Station at Heavitree or Ottery St Mary.

Ottery St Mary Police Station is now relocated to the Old Convent in the Town Centre next to Tourist Information. It is now open to the Public Monday Wednesday & Friday 9.30am - 12.30pm.
