Are we going to have a POWER STATION built in our Parish
Yes, you read correctly. An application has today been received for an 'Energy Centre' to be built within the airport boundary at the bottom of station Road.
The power station will provide both heat and power to SkyPark and Cranbrook (no mention of the intermodal facility). It is located on a brownfield site with chimneys of up to 20m. Please go to our forum and make your comments (From the Parish Council section and December Planning).
A few key points:
- Low carbon means using renewable sources for fuel - such as wood chippings, waste material etc. It uses 'pyrolysis' to extract this energy.
- There are also back up gas boilers to run the sytem when renewable sources of fuel are not available.
- The building will have a maximum height of 15.8m and a minimum height of 10m. It will cover 3122 square metres. There are 4 flue stacks of 20m in height.
- At capacity, the plant's heat output will be 36GWatt hours per year and it will have a peak capacity of 17MWth. In terms of electricty, the peak load will be 5MWe.
- The exact location will be the WWII era hanger.
- It will be operated by EON.

The amount of HGV traffic delivering fuel will be either horrendous (or very little) and in both cases will probably render the planr carbon positive +++
I am against this application
Alan
Why has this planning application for a huge industrial building generating 1000s of HGV movements a year suddenly appeared from nowhere and at this time of year ?
The only answer i can find is that the appalling dismisal of public opinion over Cranbrook is being repeated by the planning authorities/big business.
I also wonder where all this so called low carbon fuel is coming from ? That, as the events in the North of this County showed, is a nonsense. It will simply run on Gas for the majority of the time.
How many millions of tonnes of carbon from the HGVs will be produced ? How many more serious RTCs ? How many planes crashing into the stacks ? I think we should be told.
Yours aye
Richard
